3D Dental Implant Treatment Planning / COMPUTER GUIDED SURGERY

Cone Beam Computerized Tomograph (CBCT)

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology has improved tremendously over the last 10 years. The improvements directly benefit you, the patient.

Treatment planning is key and having the capability to study the anatomy of the jaw before the surgical procedure is extremely beneficial. Dental implantology is a prosthetic specialty that involves a surgical component. Being able to visualize before the surgery the relationship between the teeth to be restored and the bone available is paramount in a lot of cases.

To do a 3D implant treatment, we need:

-Dental CT-Scan – Cone Beam Computerized Tomograph (CBCT)

Dental CBCT offer the best detail in rendering the anatomy of the jaw. The radiation dosage is multiple times less than a medical grade CT-Scan.

-Dental Implant treatment planning software

Dr Gallez has been a Simplant License owner since 2002. Simplant was the first implant treatment planning and CAD-CAM surgical guide available. Today, there are several other software and surgical guides available.

Example Of 3D Treatment Planning

This patient is missing his four upper anterior teeth and one bicuspid. The hole in the middle is the nasal cavity. His jaw bone has been colored in green, his natural teeth are shown in white and we have virtually created on the computer his missing teeth in blue. They are positioned perfectly in accordance to his bite, smile line, support of the lip, etc. The 3D treatment plan shows that he will need a ridge augmentation ( bone graft ) to enable us to place the dental implants in the upper anterior.

You can seen that the 2 dental implants in the front are mostly “out of the bone”. There is plenty of bone for the third dental implant.

Remember, it is the position of the crown(s) to be made (in blue) that dictates where we place the dental implant(s).
